Piriformis syndrome is a condition that can cause ongoing sciatic nerve pain, often misdiagnosed and difficult to manage.
For Mustafa, this meant years of daily discomfort — unable to sit at the dinner table, stand comfortably at work, or enjoy simple everyday activities.
After seeing numerous specialists without relief, a hip surgeon suggested piriformis muscle release surgery. That led him to search online and find Dr. Tim Tollestrup, a peripheral nerve surgeon who takes a different approach. Instead of performing piriformis release surgery, Dr. Tollestrup pioneered a method to remove the piriformis muscle. He has performed this surgery successfully on over 500 patients worldwide. In this video, you’ll hear Mustafa’s story firsthand, learn how piriformis muscle removal surgery works, and discover how this approach could offer lasting relief from chronic sciatica pain.
If you or someone you know is experiencing similar symptoms, this could be a crucial step toward understanding your options.
Initially, the pain began in the center of my buttock, then started radiating down my leg and into my foot, following the sciatic nerve distribution.
As the years went on, the pain became more severe, and I began experiencing numbness and tingling down my leg. I worked 12-hour shifts, and standing for long hours became unbearable. I couldn’t even sit down for dinner—instead, I would squat or stand during the entire meal.
I sought help through pain management, saw neurosurgeons, underwent multiple MRIs (all of which were normal), and received epidural and steroid injections into my piriformis muscle. I also went through months of physical therapy, but nothing helped.
Eventually, I saw a hip orthopedic doctor who suggested piriformis release surgery. While researching that surgery, I came across Dr. Tollestrup online.
Dr. Tollestrup was kind, patient, and never made me feel rushed. He even took the time to speak with my wife on the phone. His nerve exam was the most thorough I had ever received.
At that point, my decision was to either continue with treatments that weren’t helping and live a limited life, or take a chance on this new surgery and hope for healing.
I chose the surgery—and now, I can sit, go on long plane rides, enjoy dinner with my wife, hang out with friends, go to the movies, and watch football without that awful buttock and sciatic pain.
I’m so grateful to Dr. Tollestrup for believing in us and developing something that truly addressed the root of the problem, rather than just masking the pain. My wife and I often reflect on all the things I can do now that I couldn’t before.
The surgery changed my life, and I’m eternally thankful to Dr. Tollestrup for giving us hope and a real solution. #PiriformisSyndrome, #SciaticaTreatment, #PiriformisRemoval, #ChronicPainRecovery, #PeripheralNerveSurgery, #DrTimTollestrup, #PatientTestimonial, #SciaticPainRelief, #MedicalCaseStudy, #NervePainTreatment, #HipPainRelief, #SurgicalSolutions, #PainManagementStory, #LifeChangingSurgery, #youtubehealthchannel
