My name is Alison, and this is my story about overcoming piriformis syndrome. Nobody could diagnose me for a while and I started on opiate pain medicine. Within six months I was an addict. My husband was deployed. I had no coping mechanisms. I was trying to function as a parent in pain, a single parent in pain with a deployed husband and two small children.
I was diverting from the hospitals I was working at for my own use. I mean, the problem had gotten really bad and I was still in pain. The pain was so real and so excruciating. I’d have spasms go down my legs. I walked like I was nine months pregnant. My hips hurt so bad.
Hear about this doctor within 60 seconds of getting out of the car. I hear about Dr. Tollestrup. And I mean, if that wasn’t God doing for me what I could not do for myself, then I don’t know what it was. When he got to piriformis syndrome and he went through the symptoms I cried, because for the first time somebody really knew exactly how I felt. I felt immediately better. There was no more radiculopathy going down my legs, I could get up and walk. All of my coworkers said, “You’re like a new person.” It was so noticeable, everybody picked up on it. My patients at work were like, “Oh my God. You look so good. ”
I had the left piriformis removed yesterday and I feel great. I don’t have the bruising this time like I did last time because I had not had a release, but I feel like amazing. He saved my life. I would not have survived. I would have killed myself sooner rather than later, because I knew the path I was going down. He’s an amazing man, his compassion, his ethic. You just don’t see that anymore in a physician. There are no words that can express the amount of gratitude I have for Dr, Tollestrup.
