Hi Michele. Generally speaking, CMT does not respond well to the type of surgery that I do. As you know, there are different forms of CMT based on the specific genetic mutation which cause degeneration of the insulating layer (myelin sheath) around the nerve fibers (axons). In certain situations, a nerve decompression surgery can temporarily improve something like a foot drop but function eventually deteriorates again as the underlying disease process progresses.
